From 1 April 2010 Stratford-on-Avon District Council will be introducing a range of new parking initiatives in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The new initiatives are:
- Park in Bridgefoot car park free for 1 hour.
- Get 25% extra parking free when you purchase the new Stratford Card.
- New parking permits for Stratford Leisure Club members.
- Concession Holders can use Windsor Street car park for 4 hours between October 2010 to March 2011 (as an alternative to the Recreation Ground).
- 12 hours parking for £10.
Councillor Mike Brain, Community Services Portfolio says: "The package of measures starting at the beginning of April have been brought about as a result of my meetings with local people, visitors and businesses and I hope that these measures will encourage residents and visitors to come to Stratford and to stay longer."
Colin Flack, FSB Stratford-upon-Avon Branch Chairman said: "The FSB are fully in support of Stratford District Councils plans to offer an hours free parking at their Bridgefoot car park in the town centre. This free hour will give car users the ability to stop and shop, using our independent retailers in the town centre."
The new Stratford Card replaces the popular CardPark system in the District Council's Pay & Display car parks throughout Stratford Town and new machines have recently been installed to accommodate this new scheme.
Stratford Card can be purchased by any person for a one-off fee of £2 and then this allows you to pre-load credit enabling you to use any of the District Councils pay & display car parks; so you no longer have to worry about having the correct change available.
From 1 April, the card will be available to purchase from the District Council's HQ, Elizabeth House in Church Street (payment only by cheque or credit card). Every time you place credit on your card you will be given a 25% bonus; so for every £1 added to the card you will receive £1.25 credit to the card.
