Children and young people in Alcester, Bidford and Southam are set to benefit from grants totalling £95,000 to provide better play spaces across Stratford District.

The County of Warwickshire has been allocated a grant of £1.2m by Central Government and Stratford-on-Avon District Council has been awarded £203,000 over two years.

The funding has been used to develop or expand existing natural and imaginative play spaces/areas i.e. stone circles, soft landscaping, stone boulders and trim trails across the District.

In all three projects funded in year one of the Play Builder programme children and young people from the local communities have worked together to design and successfully bid for the funding to improve their play spaces for all children and particularly for 8 - 13 year olds.

Councillor Mike Brain, Community Services Portfolio Holder says: "Providing innovative, stimulating play spaces for young people is vital for their self esteem.  All children love playing outside, when completed all these sites will give them the chance to climb, relax and play with friends in what I am sure will be attractive, natural and challenging environments."
