Representatives from the Dene Valley University of the Third Age (U3A), the Local History group, Wellesbourne Airfield, Chedham's Yard, the Parish Council, Warwickshire Reminiscence Action Project (WRAP) and Stratford-on-Avon District Council have all come together to work on an exciting new project for Wellesbourne.

Building upon some earlier intergenerational projects in other parts of the district, discussion focused on the development of a new project with an historical angle that could bring together all generations living in Wellesbourne and the surrounding areas, to encourage working with and learning from each other regardless of age.

The group was keen to avoid duplication of previous initiatives and local historical guides and explored a number of ideas resulting in a decision to work on the theme of 'Village Shops & Trades in the Dene Valley, 1940's to 1960's'.

As a result, local people have been approached to share their personal stories, photographs and memorabilia in relation to the village shops and main trades within the Dene Valley across these three decades. A number of positive responses and fascinating recollections are already beginning to emerge and these will be developed over the next few months.

In an exciting new development, the intergenerational group has joined forces with the Wellesbourne Village Society to hold a photographic exhibition at the Wellesbourne Village Hall on Saturday 22 May 2010 from 10am to 4pm.

There will be a wealth of photographs for people of all ages to view, illustrating the traditional shops and a number of the trades that were prominent locally during this period, some of which have now become obsolete. Visitors will also be able to compare streets 'now' with 'then' and note the various changes that have taken place. There will also be some activities for children.

Entry will be free and open to all and light refreshments will be available. Visitors to the exhibition are asked to bring along their own photographs and memorabilia and even fashion of the period and to share their special memories.
