Now that spring is finally here, Stratford-on-Avon District Council would like to remind residents to put garden waste in their green wheeled bin to be collected every other week on the same collection day as the blue lidded recycling bin.

Residents can put the following green materials in the green bin:

  • Grass cuttings
  • Prunings
  • Small trees/branches (Maximum 75mm/3 inch diameter)
  • Flowers and
  • weeds.

Residents are also reminded that food waste including raw food, cooked food (including bones) can be put in the green wheeled bin wrapped in paper or put it in compostable bags but not in plastic bags or biodegradable bags.  The contents of the green wheeled bins are taken to an in-vessel compost facility in Ufton run by Biffa Waste Services where it is turned into compost that is used locally.

You may also wish to consider home composting. Composters are available from Warwickshire County Council call 0845 077 0757 or visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/composting.

Residents are also reminded that it is their responsibility to keep their bins clean and a number of private companies operate in the District offer a regular bin cleaning service for a small fee; but this is entirely up to individual residents if they wish to use this service.  All the waste in the grey bin can be contained in plastic sacks and food waste in the green bin can be wrapped in paper or compostable bags which should minimise any potential dirt and smell problems.

Finally please remember to take care when compacting material in your wheeled bins, do not climb into the bins.
