Stratford-on-Avon District Council has decided to remove the old wooden skate park facility at Stratford Leisure Centre following an independent assessment.

The original skate park located at the back of Stratford leisure centre was opened over 15 years ago and has now come to the end of its useful life.

"This is a well used and well loved facility but the independent report commissioned states that it is no longer economically feasible to keep repairing and replacing small sections of the old skate park.  Over the last decade the District Council has committed an annual repair and maintenance budget of £10,000 each year to keep the skate park open, however the estimated cost of a major upgrade and refurbishment of the current wooden vert ramp, bowl and driveway equipment would cost over £100,000," says Cllr Mike Brain, Community Services Portfolio.

"Stratford District Council is committed to providing facilities for the young people of the District and over the last two years has invested over £80,000 in new equipment chosen by the local young people who regularly use the Stratford skate park and has a further budget allocated to purchase new equipment which will be done in consultation with the skate park users."

An open public meeting has been arranged on Thursday July 22nd at 7pm at the District Council Offices in Church Street to allow interested parties and skate park users to express their opinions on the new layout and equipment.

Although this work is taking place to remove the old wooden skate park the new equipment remains open for use.
