Yesterday, Monday 3 December Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet agreed to look at upgrading and remodelling the existing Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
At its meeting The Cabinet was asked to look at a wide range of options, following a feasibility exercise which included basic redecoration to a complete rebuild.
The Cabinet has agreed option 6 - Upgrading and remodelling the existing Leisure Centre with further work being commissioned to develop these proposals, allowing the public and Leisure Centre users to be consulted, with a report going to The Cabinet next year.
Cllr Lynda Organ, Technical Services Portfolio says: “Doing nothing is not an option. Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre is extremely popular and well-used but is showing its age. We want to bring it into the 21st century so we can provide a wide range of high-quality activities and events for local people, and increase participation in sports and active lifestyles."
The Leisure Centre currently attracts in excess of over half a million visits a year and has reached the end of its 30-year design life and is in need of refurbishment and modernisation.
