Southam
The Council is consulting on the proposed designation of a defined part of Southam town centre as a high street for the purposes of HSRA powers.
The Proposed Area
The proposed designation covers the following streets
- Coventry Street
- Market Place
The boundary has been drawn to focus on the established town-centre retail and shopping area. Southam is a significant service town for the local areas and also has a visitor economy element where the effects of vacant units can be magnified. Only applicable premises within the proposed boundary for adoption can be considered under the High Street Rental Auction legislation. Inclusion within the area would not mean that a property automatically qualifies for action.

What happens after the consultation
Responses will be reviewed before a decision is made on whether to adopt, amend or withdraw the proposed designation. Any future consideration of an individual vacant property would be a separate process and would be subject to the statutory eligibility tests and notice requirements.
