The District Council has published a further draft of the Core Strategy for consultation purposes. This version supersedes the previous drafts published in October 2008 and February 2010. The consultation period ran from Thursday 16 February to 5.00pm on Friday 30 March 2012 and has now closed.
Since the last consultation period the Coalition Government has announced its intention to withdraw Regional Spatial Strategies and the Localism Act has received Royal Assent. This has changed the basis on which local plans are produced, with a particular emphasis on the requirement for housing, employment, shopping and other forms of development being established locally rather than at the regional level.
A considerable amount of evidence has been collected to underpin the preparation of the current plan. Assessment work is continuing and the outcome of this, together with the consultation responses, will assist the District Council to prepare a formal version of the Core Strategy for submission to the Secretary of State in November this year.
A Sustainability Appraisal has been carried out on the Draft Core Strategy and this has also been published and was included in the public consultation.

Documents can also be inspected at the District Council office (Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon) and at all public libraries in the district. If you need a paper copy of the documents please telephone 01789 260303. There will be a minimum cost price charge.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council have discovered a number of significant inaccuracies and errors in a letter and leaflet widely circulated to local residents by Bloor Homes this week. Please be reassured that the District Council is taking a careful look over the whole leaflet and will produce a more accurate picture.
Cllr Chris Saint, Leader of Stratford District Council says: “Many of the figures in the leaflet are incorrect and unsubstantiated. We would like reassure residents who are alarmed by the leaflet that a full report and explanation from the District Council will follow that will dispel some of Bloor Homes claims."
