Released on 13 January 2010
The snowfall today, Wednesday 13 January, has caused disruption to the District Council's new and revised schedule.
The Refuse and Recycling Service arrangements for Thursday 14 January are detailed below.
Verdant will be working to complete all of Wednesday 13 January collections of refuse, green waste and recycling on the revised schedule, subject to weather conditions and access.
They will also be collecting refuse in the following areas on the schedule for Thursday 14 January:
The information above is still based on the new and revised schedule, which has replaced the Christmas schedule.
Any areas not covered by this information will be updated further when that information and collection details are available.
Because of the delays the crews will collect up to three additional sacks of waste during this catch up period only. Any additional waste needs to be securely tied in black bags and placed next to the bin.
Extra recycling side waste will also be taken, but this must be in a box or other suitable container not in a black sack.
Again Stratford District Council would like to apologise for the disruption to the current service and hope that residents bear with us during this spell of winter weather and be assured that we are committed to resuming a normal service as soon as possible.

Prior to yet another delay in recycling collection today, I'm still waiting for the previous delayed and rescheduled recycling collection to be collected. I even saw one of the garden waste trucks in the village, Harbury, collecting on its rescheduled day but the household recycling is still awaiting its collection. In the meantime it's continuing to build up. During all of this I have managed to get out of and back into my 'inaccesiable' village and today even managed Gatwick and back. Not impressed. Your revised lists are becoming so complicated that need a degree now to work out when the next collection is.

Have absolutely no idea from the schedules - revised or other when my waste is likely to be collected. Can't you make it simpler to understand. Live in Henley.

Surely with the additional costs being incurred, snow chains would be an economic option!

Snow Chains only work on roads with thick snow. In the UK the snow is kept off main roads as much as possible, and snow chains would rip up the tarmac if there wasn't any snow to protect the road. Ice is surely the biggest problem at the moment and chains don't help with this. I don't want a refuse lorry in my front room, so safety first please.

As you say, main roads are kept clear, but presently 90% of roads are snow bound. Also, I havent seen reports of black ice recently, and snow chains are readily removeable. What about some positive, constructive thinking, rather than what cannot be done!

Mucking about repeatedly with the due dates is not helpful to anyone, as the other comments here illustrate. If a collection is not possible because the snow is deep or dangerous then that is one unavoidably missed and people understand. But if it wasn't for 'outsourcing' the collection guys could have been so much more help clearing paths for elderly residents or schools for exams etc - but such 'community' thinking is now precluded!

IN SUPPORT OF VERDANT. The time taken to write some of these negative views could have been put to better use, ie do what i did - take some of your refuse/recycling to your nearest tip/recycling centre and be done with it!! Where on earth did Ted Hunter get "but presently 90% of roads are snow bound."?? I have seen no reports of this any where!! As to clearing paths/schools etc, if you note in years gone by, a lot of areas were cleared by residents in the street, shop keepers in retail areas etc etc. But as usual, people no longer take ownership and expect everything to be done for them! If concern is for elderly residents, I hope Andrew went and offered his services before writing the following comment...."but such 'community' thinking is now precluded!"? Surely as a resident, you are part of a community? The Council can only do so much, and we can do our bit too.
