Released on 9 February 2010
Stratford-on-Avon District Council has reopened the toilets at Windsor Street car park in Stratford-upon-Avon today, Tuesday 9 February.
The toilets have been closed since November as a number of vagrants have been using them during the bad weather as a shelter and intimidating users.
The District Council will be working closely with the Police and the CCTV control room to keep the vagrants out of the toilets.
If any members of the public experience difficulty accessing the facilities because of these vagrants they are asked to report the incident to the Police at Stratford Police station or alternatively the District Council offices.
The District Council regrets having to take the initial action to close and in having to use valuable Police resources in keeping the toilets free in this way.

With the toilets reopening what can the council do to stop the vagrants using the Windsor Street car park as a toilet, as they do at present. The smell on the ground floor is really appalling at times. The whole car park badly needs an upgrade especially as the charge is now £1 per hour.
