Service to Sport Award

The 2018 winner of the Service to Sport Award is Simon Chester, Great Alne Cricket Club.

Simon has been a key figure in the life of Great Alne Cricket Club for almost forty years. As a player he has been a regular since 1978 playing 620 games for the Club. Simon has served on the Club Committee for at least 35 years; was Club Captain for 12 years, Fixtures Secretary for seven years and Secretary for one year. He has been responsible for raising in excess of £20,000 for the Club, helping to provide a new pavilion and other facilities. In 2005, Simon instigated a 'kids week' in the summer holiday, which he has run annually since that date. In 2007, he started a junior section of the club. Having just completed his 11th season in his role in charge of the development of junior players, he has had to step down due to work commitments. In this time he has inspired and developed hundreds of youngsters.

Award Criteria

An individual who has made an exceptional impact and outstanding contribution to sport in Stratford-on-Avon District over a number of years.

The nominee:

  • can be connected to a club, school or sporting organisation in Stratford-on-Avon District.
  • may still be involved in sport or have retired in the period 21st November 2016 to 12th November 2017
