Junior Sports Person Award

The 2018 winner of the Junior Sports Person Award is Jack Sumners, Stratford Athletic Club.

The highlight of Jack's year was being selected to represent England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas. Despite falling ill and being placed in isolation, he achieved the U18 110m hurdles silver medal. His other achievements include:

  • School Games - U17 100m Hurdles & 4x100m relay (Gold)
  • England Championships - U17 100m Hurdles & Long Jump (Silver)
  • Midland Championships - U17 100m Hurdles & Long Jump (Gold)
  • World Schools Cup - U18 110m Hurdles (Bronze & team Silver for England)
  • England Indoor Championships - U17 Long Jump & 60m Hurdles (Gold)
  • 110m Hurdles (U18) - IAAF World ranking 5th, European ranking 5th
Award Criteria

Each nominee must:

  • have performed to a high standard in their sport have shown great sportsmanship, motivation and determination in their sport
  • have been under the age of 18 on the date of the most recent achievement included in the nomination
