Stratford-on-Avon District Council is undertaking a six-week public consultation on Draft Part V (Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation) of the Development Requirements Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).

This document is a key and significant piece of work to accompany our Core Strategy. It provides detailed advice and guidance to applicants when submitting planning applications and is designed to ensure that new development and extensions to existing property meets our emerging requirement of achieving a climate change goal of net zero emissions by 2030. When adopted, it will be used by the District Council to ensure that planning decisions reflect as far as possible our aspiration to achieve that goal.

The consultation runs from Thursday 9 January to 5pm on Friday 21 February 2020

The consultation document can be viewed on the District Council's website at www.stratford.gov.uk/devreq-spd

It is also available to inspect at the District Council offices - Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6HX and at public libraries across the District.

The District Council is also hosting a drop-in day when Officers will be available to answer questions and provide more information. This will take place at Elizabeth House on Tuesday 4 February 2020 from 3pm to 7pm.

Cllr Daren Pemberton, Place Portfolio Holder, said about the consultation: "This consultation relates to how we will use our current Core Strategy to achieve our climate change emergency goals. This document will pay a pivotal part in achieving our climate strategy. It is the key tool in this Core Strategy to ensure our residents desire to address climate change is addressed.

"I welcome the Council's proactive approach to climate change through this SPD which sets out a range of detailed advice and guidance for applicants that addresses the Council's climate change emergency goals, as declared in July 2019. It is important that the public has the opportunity to inform the SPD and we welcome comments on its content and approach. I hope that it will be adopted and that, when adopted, it will underpin this authority's intention to create a carbon neutral district by 2030."
