Stratford-on-Avon District Council has commenced a six-week public consultation on the proposed submission version of its Site Allocations Plan.

The plan is one of a number of planning policy documents that, when adopted, will be used by the District Council to help make decisions on planning applications across Stratford-on-Avon District. It will also enable communities to know where new development may happen in the future.

The consultation document is divided into a number of sections setting out new planning policies and proposals relating to:

  • Reserve housing sites
  • Self-build and custom-build housing sites
  • Built-up area settlement boundaries
  • Employment enabling sites
  • Safeguarding land along the route of the A46
  • A number of specific sites across the district including employment land

Comments are sought on the content and soundness (appropriateness) of the plan.

The consultation runs from Thursday 8 August to Friday 20 September 2019.

Cllr Daren Pemberton, Deputy Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Place Portfolio Holder says "This consultation is the latest stage in the preparation of the Site Allocations Plan which will be an important element of the District's Development Plan once adopted.

"This plan sets out a range of planning policies and proposals including the identification of reserve housing sites that will only be released for development if the District Council can no longer demonstrate a 5 year housing land supply

"The District Council has recently published its latest Housing Land Supply Statement for 2019-2024 which shows there is a 6.51 year supply. The security of having a strong housing land supply and a series of identified reserve housing sites if required, will help protect the district from speculative developments in unsuitable locations.

"It is important that the public has the opportunity to inform the plan and we welcome comments on its content and soundness."

The consultation document can be viewed on the District Council's website at: www.stratford.gov.uk/siteallocations

It is also available to inspect at the District Council's offices at Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 6HX.

How to Comment

  • Comments can be submitted online via the District Council's website www.stratford.gov.uk/siteallocations or by downloading a form and emailing it to policy.consultations@stratford-dc.gov.uk

  • Alternatively, submissions can be posted to the Planning Policy Team, Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 6HX.

What happens next?

The District Council will consider the comments received and make any changes to the Site Allocations Plan as appropriate before it is formally submitted to the government for independent examination by an inspector. The inspector will then hold an examination in public to assess whether the plan is 'sound' or fit for purpose and meets all the necessary legal requirements.

If the inspector concludes that the plan is sound then the Council should be able to formally adopt it in summer 2020.

Comments must be received by the District Council by 5pm on Friday 20 September 2019.
