One of Stratford-on-Avon District Council's CCTV Operators has been honoured at the Warwickshire Police Awards Ceremony for the work carried out in tracking down the offenders on two particular cases.

The District Council officer's observations skills and diligence resulted in the offenders receiving custodial sentences.

The first was for a distraction fraud against an elderly, vulnerable adult; and the second was for a gang wanted by Royal Mail for a series of nationwide thefts of valuable items including jewellery.

Commendations are normally reserved for police officers, but in special circumstances may be awarded to members of the community.

Cllr Tony Jefferson, Health and Community Safety Portfolio says: "This shows just how valuable our CCTV system is; and in particular the importance of the high quality, vigilance and capability of operators.

"This is an excellent acknowledgement of the District Council's CCTV team's value and how their work is instrumental in protecting our Districts' residents and communities from harm. Those thinking of breaking the law should understand very clearly how CCTV can be used to help with their arrest.  It is also an excellent example of partnership working with the police."
