It's business as usual for Stratford Visitor Information Centre after Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet today, Monday 15 January, recommended that the current visitor information service continues.

The decision has been made following the end of the contract with Stratford-upon-Avon College who had been providing the service from Bridgefoot  since January 2012.

With the current contract ending the District Council will now take over the running of the Visitor Information Centre, ensuring continuity of service.

Cllr Dave Riches, Enterprise and Revenues Portfolio says: "The Visitor Information Centre provides a valuable service to visitors, residents and local tourist organisations. The TUPE staff transfer has provided an opportunity to enable the current service to continue whilst the longer term tourist information provision can be evaluated.

"The District Council will take this opportunity to review the future of the provision of visitor information.  If future changes are to be made, this approach will help facilitate the transition from the current service to the new service, providing the confidence and stability to local tourism organisations and visitors."

Background information

In January 2012 the District Council entered into a formal agreement with Stratford-upon-Avon College to provide a visitor information service from the Bridgefoot Tourist Information Centre.

The current contract with Stratford-upon-Avon College ends on 31 January 2018.

Following the ongoing merger between Stratford-upon-Avon College and Solihull College, both Colleges have agreed not to continue with the current arrangement of running the Visitor Information Centre.
