Stratford-on-Avon District Council has today, Tuesday 3 October, announced a £9,700 start-up fund for the Ken Kennett Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

This additional money now will allow The Clopton Community Action Group (CCAG) to take over the responsibility of managing the building; its upkeep, general maintenance and eventually opening the Ken Kennett Centre once again to the local community.

This funding is recognised as a 'working fund' to allow the centre to run effectively from day one, to support any enabling, ongoing and unforeseen costs.  It would create a buffer to allow the centre time to establish itself as a sustainable business.

Cllr Lynda Organ, Finance and Physical Resources Portfolio says: "The re-opening of this Community Centre is much needed and I am delighted that monies have now been identified by the District Council to cover both the refurbishment of the Ken Kennett Centre and a start-up float.  This means that as soon as the Clopton Community Action Group has completed the lease from the District Council, the work to transform the building can start."

Cllr Jason Fojtik, local ward member for Clopton and member of the CCAG says: "As the ward councillor and chair of the CCAG I am delighted with the Council's decision and support. Many local residents have worked very hard to get to this stage and we all look forward to this new exciting start for the Ken Kennett Centre."

The District Council is committed to ensuring that a suitable community facility is provided in this area of the town, which is sustainable and fit for purpose in the long term.
