Residents who want to help shape the future of their communities are being invited to a special information event for prospective councillors organised by Stratford-on-Avon District Council.

The Council, which is encouraging local people to stand for the District Council elections in May 2019, is holding the event to explain what being a councillor is all about and how to become an election candidate.

The event takes place from 5pm on Thursday 15 November 2018 in the Council Chamber at the District Council offices in Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear insights from and question current councillors and officers, find out about a typical week in the life of a councillor, and meet representatives from different political groups.

David Dalby, the Council's Democratic Services Manager, says: "Stratford-on-Avon District Council has 36 councillors, each representing a particular ward.

"Councillors come from all walks of life, which is very important because having a diverse range of local people to reflect different points of view can help all district residents."

"Why not come along and find out what it takes to be a councillor and how you can make a difference? It might be the best decision you ever make!"
