In December, Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet endorsed the new Active Communities Strategy (ACS) and year one delivery plan.

The ACS runs from 2019 to 2024 and links with the Corporate Strategy objective 'to improve the health and wellbeing of our local communities.'

The strategy seeks to enable and provide activities for local communities with the purpose of improving health and wellbeing.  The strategy will advocate exercise opportunities by working with key partners to raise the profile of the current leisure offering.

The strategy has three main themes:

  • Strategic Theme 1 - Encourage active communities to improve health and wellbeing
  • Strategic Theme 2 - Enhancing and sustaining facility provision
  • Strategic Theme 3 - To raise the profile of sport and physical activity

Cllr Mike Brain, Services for the Community Portfolio says: "Health and wellbeing is a key objective in the District Council's Corporate Strategy, which the ACS intrinsically links to by supporting physical activity to encourage local communities to lead a heathier lifestyle."

Cllr Jacqui Harris, Health, Wellbeing and Housing Portfolio, adds: "The delivery plan offers a diverse programme of opportunities, working alongside partners to support the delivery of a wide range of activities across the district.  The ACS will help the District Council ensure that all residents of the district, be they young or old, are given the chance and support to become more active."
