Alcester's new library is now open. The new facility at Globe House, which joins the Roman Museum and Town Council, is already welcoming local residents.

Contractors have spent the last four months transforming the building provide Alcester's library, county and town council services and museum from under one roof.

Delighted by the new opening, Cllr Mike Gittus, Local Ward Member for Warwickshire County Council, said: “This is the culmination of an idea conceived in 2011, and though I am sure there will be teething pains in the first few weeks, I am really excited at the prospects of all the town's services working in partnership under one roof."

Clive Neil-Sturgess, The Mayor of Alcester, said of Alcester Town Council's move into its new premises in The Globe, “It's fantastic that after 5 years of sustained effort by Cllr Gittus and the Town Clerk Chris Wright, Alcester Town Council at last has its own permanent base in the town."

Laurence Thatcher of Alcester Heritage Trust added: “This is an exciting new era for the Roman Museum. Our new close relationship with the library, gives us security and a long term future."

Warwickshire County Council has taken on a 99 year lease granted by Stratford District Council for the building, and designers have created a modern, more effective space for visitors to access digital services and learning. Globe House became a major opportunity for the county council and local community to bring the library together with a range of council services and Alcester's Roman Museum.

The proceeds from the current library building, once sold, will be used to meet the cost of the transformation.

Globe House plans to hold an official launch in April with a range of activities for the local community to enjoy.
