A public inquiry starts next week, Tuesday 1 December, following an appeal by CEMEX UK Properties against the refusal of planning permission for the development of land south of Stockton Road for up to 85 houses.

The appeal relates to proposals for outline planning permission for up to 81 dwellings (after being reduced from 85 as part of the appeal), including site access, public open space, structural landscaping and other additional and supporting works submitted under planning application reference 14/00856/OUT.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council refused the planning application on the following grounds:

  • Having regard to economic, social and environmental considerations the proposal is considered to be an unsustainable form of development.
  • Harm to landscape character and the visual amenity of the area/countryside/canal.
  • The scale of the proposed development is excessive given the size and character of Long Itchington and the appropriate role of rural settlements in meeting housing requirements for the district.

The inquiry, expected to last for up to 4 days, will be held at the District Council Offices, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford upon Avon CV37 6HX starting at 10am.  A Government Planning Inspector will preside over the inquiry.

Members of the public may attend the inquiry and express their view – at the discretion of the inspector.

Planning Inspectorate Reference: APP/J3720/W/15/3009042.
