The Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Cllr Chris Saint has appointed Cllr Daren Pemberton (Bidford & Salford) as Environmental Services Portfolio on Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet until May 2015.

Cllr Pemberton's appointment follows the untimely loss of Cllr Sir William Lawrence who held the Portfolio and sadly passed away on 10 February.

Cllr Sir William Lawrence was the longest serving member and represented the ward of Aston Cantlow for almost 33 years since first being elected in 1982 at the age of 27.

Cllr Daren Pemberton has been a District Councillor since 2001 and is Chairman of Planning (West) but will be standing down from that role at the next meeting.

He has lived in Bidford for 19 years with his wife and two sons and works for a provider of rehabilitation for those suffering brain or spinal cord injury.

Cllr Daren Pemberton, Environmental Services Portfolio says: “I join the Cabinet in difficult circumstances and wish to pay tribute to the achievements of the late Sir William Lawrence who was instrumental in the development of services in the Environmental Services Portfolio. I hope to carry on his work particularly as we continue through the process of adopting our core strategy."
