Athletics and swimming feature highly over the next few weeks with a number of schools across south Warwickshire.
After five regional heats across the District in athletics, organised by Stratford-on-Avon District Council, eight schools have qualified for the grand final at Stratford Leisure & Visitor Centre on Monday 27 March between 1.00pm and 4.00pm.
The Schools are: St Gregory's, Stratford; St James, Southam; St Mary's, Studley; St Nicholas, Alcester; Shipston on Stour Primary; Tanworth-in-Arden Primary School; Temple Grafton Primary School; Thomas Jolyffe, Stratford. Teams consist of a maximum of 15 girls and 15 boys competing in track events such as obstacle relay, 1+1 lap relay, and field events like the standing long jump and soft javelin.
The winners of this competition progress as champions to represent the Stratford District in the County Final at North Solihull Sports College on 2 May.
Swimming takes over the following day, with the first of four regional swimming galas being held around the Stratford District. These are at each of the four leisure centres run by SLM on behalf of the Council at Shipston-on-Stour, Southam, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Studley.
A total of 33 schools are taking part this year. Teams of Year 6 girls and boys, and Year 5 and under girls and boys will battle it out over the four individual strokes: frontcrawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
The fastest three in each event will then be selected to represent the regional team in the grand final at Stratford leisure centre on Saturday 6 May.
