The planning and listed building consent applications for major refurbishment works to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (RST), including the creation of a new auditorium within the building and construction of a new tower by Waterside, are to be considered by Stratford-on-Avon District Council's West Area Planning Committee at 2:00 pm on 19 April in the Council Chamber at Elizabeth House.  Planning officers are recommending that the Committee supports the proposals, which would then have to be referred to the Secretary of State before any planning permissions can be issued.

The RST has already closed in anticipation, and the Royal Shakespeare Company hopes to begin work as soon as planning permission and listed building consent have been received, with a view to the theatres re-opening in 2010.

For more information on the planning proposals or Committee procedure, visit the Council's website at www.stratford.gov.uk or contact the case officer, Les Greenwood (Planning Development Manager) on 01789 260120.
