54 candidates will be contesting 18 seats at Stratford-on-Avon District Council elections on 3 May. The council has 53 seats in total.  



Nominations closed at 12noon today (Wednesday) although candidates may still withdraw up to 12 noon on 11 April. The list of wards and candidates follows and existing councillors fighting their seats are underlined:  



Alcester - Mike Gerrard (Lab), Ronald Mole (UKIP), Eric Payne (Cons), Karyl Rees (Lib Dem).

Bardon - Valerie Hobbs (Cons), John Insoll (Lib Dem) Michael Sharpe (UKIP).

Bidford & Salford - Alec Brown (Lab), Brian Slaughter (Cons), Melanie Holland (Lib Dem), Karen Varga (Green).

Fenny Compton - Nesta Commander (Lib Dem), Christopher Williams (Cons).

Harbury - Peter Barton (Cons), Christopher Moir (Lib Dem). Henley - Jacqueline Abbott (Lab), Laurence Marshall (Cons), Brett Parsons (UKIP), Rosemary Ratcliffe (Lib Dem).

Kineton - Louise Giblin (Lib Dem), Christopher Mills (Cons).

Shipston - Clive Faulkner (Cons), Ann Grosvenor (Lab), Bob White (Lib Dem).

Southam - Ian Fradgley (Lib Dem), James Taylor (Lab), David Wise (Cons).

Stratford Alveston - Ralph Berry (UKIP), John Mullings (Green), Kate Rolfe (Lib Dem), Vincent Seaman (Cons).

Stratford Avenue & New Town - Alison Gardner (Cons), Keith Lloyd (Ind), Karen Parnell (Lab), Ron Tredwell (Lib Dem).

Stratford Guild & Hathaway - Neville Beamer (Cons), Hugh Chatwin (Green), Harry Cottam (UKIP), George Hathaway (Lab), Clive Thomas (Lib Dem).

Stratford Mount Pleasant - John Brain (Cons), Peter Moorse (Lib Dem), David Talbot (Lab).

Studley - Anthony Cronin (Lib Dem), Jeffrey Kenner (Lab),  Michael Weddell (Cons).

Tredington - Christopher Saint (Cons), Philip Vial (Lib Dem). Welford - Peter Barnes (Lib Dem), David Cox (Cons). Wellesbourne - Martin Allan (Cons), David Close (Lib Dem), Roger Fisher (Green).  



Polling on 3 May will be carried out at 82 stations around the District, with hours of polling being 7.00am to 10.00pm. Details about the count will be announced in a separate operational note.  



The current political standings of the Council's 53 seats are: Conservatives - 30 seats; Liberal Democrats - 18 seats; Independents - 3 seats; and 2 vacancies.
