Residents across south Warwickshire are being reminded about theĀ arrangements for rubbish collections over the Christmas period. Stratford-on-Avon District Council will be running a double collection service with Biffa, on 2 and 3 January 2006 to minimise the disruption to waste collections.

There will be no collections of refuse or recycling material on Monday 26 December or Tuesday 27 December.

Collections originally due on 26 December will be collected on 2 January instead, with recycling collected on 9 January.

Collections that were due on 27 December will be collected on 3 January, with recycling collected on 10 January when the normal service resumes. All other collections will take place on the usual days.

"Christmas tends to generate far more waste material, so we are keen to ensure we provide as good a service as possible," said Cllr Alan Akeister, Portfolio Holder for Environment.

"However, I want to re-assure residents that all the material collected for recycling is being reprocessed and not dumped abroad, after a recent television programme may have raised concerns.

"Stratford District Council is one of the best performing councils for recycling, with a recycling rate of over 42% at the moment, all down to the residents of the District using our schemes.

"I would encourage residents to continue recycling their waste, as this conserves material and saves energy."
