Stratford District Council and the community group Stour Power are seeking to appoint an artist or designer-maker to undertake a seating project for the town.

Community representatives have identified seating and the creation of pleasant meeting and resting areas as a priority.  A modest starter budget of £6000 - £10,000 is available to commission bespoke discrete elements of street furniture.

Expressions of interest and some colour photos of recent work are invited from artists and designer makers by 21st February 2005.

This is an ideal opportunity for an artist or designer-maker, preferably with local connections.  We are open to ideas about the design of the seating and materials used - wood, stone or concrete resins etc, metalwork.  Initial concept designs may be exhibited for public consultation.

This will be the first project within a longer-term vision and identity for to town, which includes introducing a variety of art and design into the public realm as a way of making the town more welcoming and attractive for residents and visitors.
