Stratford District and Warwickshire County Councils wish to clarify the public transport facilities that will be required as part of the Cattle Market redevelopment scheme in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The two councils confirm that proposals for this important site will only be recommended for planning approval if they include adequate space adjacent to the railway station for a minimum of six buses or coaches to put down and pick up passengers and to lay over between journeys.

Facilities for passengers are to include shelter, seating and toilets.  The detailed arrangements will be a matter for negotiation between the developers, the train and bus operators and the two councils.

"I felt it was important, in view of recent public speculation about this proposal, to make it clear that we will require appropriate facilities to meet the needs of residents and visitors to our town," said Cllr Stuart Beese, the district council portfolio holder for planning.

"We are working hand in glove with our colleagues at the County Council on this issue.  Excellent public transport facilities are an essential component of the redevelopment of this key gateway to Stratford-upon-Avon."
