Safety work on a number of trees in Stratford-upon-Avon's Recreation Ground is due to start next week, which will mean the children's play area being closed off from Monday 5 December to Friday 9 December. Two trees will be removed completely, whilst a further eight trees will have their canopies reduced and all deadwood removed.

The work on the Ash trees is being carried out by County Council Forestry Officers on behalf of Stratford-on-Avon District Council. It is a safety precaution to prevent branches falling on anyone nearby in windy weather. The trees are all in the children's play area.

The District Council carried out inspections on all the trees in the Recreation Ground, the results of which showed that two were diseased and could pose a problem if left untreated.

The District Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience the works may cause.
