How to Get a Bin

Requesting a Wheeled Bin

If you wish to request a wheeled bin or recycling box, you can apply for them online or contact the Streetscene team using the details below.

Please note that wheeled bins are chargeable and only provided if the property is appropriate. Alternative receptacles may be offered.

Lost or Stolen Bins

If your bin has gone missing, please contact us to discuss obtaining a replacement. A charge may be incurred.

Bin Swaps

A charge will be incurred to swap the colour or size of your bin. Bin swaps will only be accommodated where appropriate.

Additional Bins

The council can provide additional blue and green bins.

If certain criteria are met, a small additional grey bin may be provided upon request. Fees and charges apply.

New Build Properties

The builder or developer is responsible for providing all appropriate bins at new-build properties before they are occupied by the new home owner. Normal fees and charges apply and are chargeable to the builder or developer.

Rented Accommodation

Landlords are expected to ensure bins are in place before properties are occupied by new tenants. Normal fees and charges apply and are chargeable to the landlord. Replacement and additional bins may be chargeable to the landlord or tenant, dependant on circumstances.

Fees and Charges

Prices vary depending on whether the bin is a first, replacement or an additional bin, and the type and size of the bin requested.

Please view the council's Fees and Charges Schedule for details of current prices.

The council reserves the right to remove bins where appropriate. Refunds will not be provided.

Properties Without Wheeled Bins

Some properties in the district (including flats / maisonettes and some terraced houses) are not able to store or present wheeled bins for collection. In these incidences, these properties can be provided with the following:

  • Refuse - rolls of black sacks are not provided by the council, residents are advised to make their own arrangements regarding purchasing sacks for your general waste. Up to three sacks can be put out for collection at any one time.
  • Recycling - black recycling boxes are available free of charge upon request. These can be collected from the council offices, or may be delivered in certain circumstances.
  • Garden waste - where a green bin is not possible, reusable green sacks can be purchased if you subscribe to the garden waste collection service.
  • Food waste - food waste can be collected using kitchen caddies.
