What is an RSS Feed?

RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication, or in other words, a news feed generated automatically when new content is published.

We use RSS feeds here at Stratford on Avon District Council to keep our residents and staff up to date with the latest news, local events and also the latest content added to our social networking sites on Flickr, YouTube and Twitter.

There are many ways of reading these news feeds. If you are using the latest web browsers like Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Safari, RSS feeds will show automatically at the end of the address bar as an orange icon.

Simply click this icon, and you can bookmark one of the many feeds we provide.

If you use news readers, you should be able to copy and paste the RSS location into your reader, and it will automatically update.

So why use RSS?

Well simply, it keeps you up to speed, without having to visit the website quite as often. If you see a story or article summary that interests you, you can click on the title and it will take you directly to that content. The best thing though? It's all free!

What are the other ways of staying in touch?

Since launching Twitter in June 2008, we've had a great response from residents and professionals alike. Twitter can send you SMS text updates (again for free) of our updates. As we add in our News, Events and Social networking feeds into Twitter, you can be updated on the move via your mobile, and link straight into our website content.
