It is a legal requirement for the majority of planning applications, and all listed building consent applications, to be supported by a Design and Access Statement (DAS).
This does not just relate to major development. All householder applications for sites in Conservation Areas and the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) will need Design and Access Statements.
Applications that require a DAS will not be valid unless the required Statement is submitted. An information sheet provides help with preparation of Statements.
For householder applications, a short Statement form is available, simplifying the process.
The Statements will allow the District Council, neighbours, consultees and other stakeholders to have a wider appreciation of the proposed scheme, its design and how the proposal has been developed.
Detailed advice about DASs is available from the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.
