Are conservatories treated differently from other extensions?

No. Conservatories are the same as other extensions in planning law. They are often permitted development, but a planning application may be required depending on several factors, including the size and location of the proposed conservatory and the size of any previous extensions to the property.

Conservatories are treated differently to other extensions in the Building Regulations. Building Regulation approval may be required if the floor area of your conservatory exceeds 30 square metres, if it has a solid roof or if it is not separated from your house with doors.
