Do I need planning permission for a new pation or car parking area at my house?

You can normally cover any part of your domestic garden with hard surfacing, unless your normal 'permitted development rights' have been removed by a planning condition on a previous permission.

Works which significantly change ground levels, such as terracing to support a hard surface, might need a planning application. Alternatively, an elevated patio or decking, especially if it creates useable space underneath, might be regarded as an extension or an outbuilding, and would then be subject to the appropriate limits.

We recommend that you fill out a Householders Enquiry form and post it to the Council. We will then advise you in writing whether you need planning permission, or other consents, for your proposal.
