With 75 Conservation Areas, over 3,000 listed buildings and 86 scheduled ancient monuments, the quality of the District's built heritage is undoubted. Significant parts of the District fall within special landscape areas as well as the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are over 500 Tree Preservation Orders in effect and 661.8 hectares designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Conservation and Forestry & Landscape Officers are primarily involved in protecting and promoting these important aspects of the District.
The Conservation team advise on architectural and design issues as part of the planning process. They manage the review and documentation of conservation areas, maintain records of historic buildings and provide guidance on their repair and maintenance.
Forestry & Landscape advise on landscape design elements and tree assessments for new developments and planning applications that affect protected trees. They issue Tree Preservation Orders and deal directly with applications for carrying out work to them. They also deal with notifications for proposed work on trees within a Conservation Area and assess agricultural Hedgerow Removal Notices.
