Local Choice - meeting the needs of Rural Communities

The Council adopted the above Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on 23 April 2007. The document had previously been adopted as supplementary planning guidance (SPG) by the Council. The SPG has been reviewed and has now been re-published as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). A Statement of Consultation is also published together with an Adoption Statement.

• The SPD provides detailed guidance on the operation of Policy COM.1 'Local Choice' in the Local Plan Review.
• It explains the role of Parish Plans and the local community in identifying and meeting local needs for development.
• It gives advice to communities and other interested parties about the evidence that the District Planning Authority will require in order to assess the merits of a proposal to meet local needs.

To complement this guidance are appendices that deal with local occupancy controls and the definition of 'local connection'; the sales procedure for local market properties; and on self-help housing schemes.
