Following extensive consultation, on 23 July 2007 the District Council adopted a comprehensive 'Urban Design Framework' or Masterplan for Stratford-upon-Avon, building on existing policy and strategy documents. The document was produced jointly with Warwickshire County Council and other key stakeholders including the Stratford Town Management Partnership and (at the time) Advantage West Midlands. The document provides an overall framework for future development and improvement of the town in terms of the built environment, public realm and transport. It illustrates key changes that are needed in order to transform the town in line with aspirations to be a 'World Class' destination consistent with the towns international reputation.
