The District Council has started to prepare a series of planning documents to guide development and change in the District over the next 20 years. They will determine where new homes are built, where new jobs are created and how people can travel to get to the things they need.
The first and most important of these documents is the Core Strategy, because it will set the course for everything to follow. It will present a vision of how we want the District to look and function in 2026.
There are some big challenges facing our District, which the Core Strategy will need to address. We think some of these are:
A consultation exercise on issues raised in the Issues and Options document was carried out in May/June 2007.
What happens next?
The Draft Core Strategy has now been published. This puts forward the District Council's preferred approach on a wide range of policy topics and on the location and nature of future development. We are consulting on the draft strategy until 9 January 2009. Click on the link below to view the documents and find out how to submit comments.
Draft Core Strategy - October 2008
This will lead to the preparation of the Core Strategy itself which will be submitted to the Secretary of State in Summer 2009. An Examination in Public should be held towards the end of 2009 before it is finally approved.
