Planning Surgeries

  • Thinking of extending your house?

  • Considering building works?

  • Need some advice before submitting a planning application?

  • Need to talk to someone about your neighbour's application?

  • Need to understand planning procedures?

There is a lot of information available elsewhere on this web-site, but if want to talk to a planning officer in person, you can make an appointment for advice on any of these issues and more.

When and where

You can meet an officer at Elizabeth House, Church Street in Stratford-upon-Avon [surgery meetings at the Council's Southam sub-office are temporarily suspended].

Surgery meetings will be for 20 minutes each, starting at half hour intervals.

The surgeries are on:

  • Wednesday afternoons Elizabeth House from 2:00 (last meeting 4:30)
  • Friday afternoons Elizabeth House from 9:30 (last meeting 12:00)

[Tuesday and Thursday surgeries are temporarily suspended]

Who can book a surgery meeting?

The surgeries are open to everyone, including professional agents.

Are there any topics which can't be covered in surgery meetings?

Surgeries can cover any planning topic, except for the following:

  • Is planning permission or other consent required? This question is best dealt with in writing, using the householder development enquiry form
  • For major proposals, e.g. proposals for 10 or more houses, individual meetings will be booked. The Council will use a 'Development Team' approach to help give guidance on major proposals
  • Where an application has already been withdrawn or refused you should arrange to meet the specific case officer
  • Where the site is for sale, individual meetings cannot normally be provided to prospective purchasers. In such cases a standard written advice note will be prepared by Planning Services
  • Specialist Conservation and Trees advice is available by separate arrangement with our Policy and Conservation Section (01789 260337).

What you should provide

To make best use of your time with the planning officer you should provide as much information as possible before the meeting. This may be an explanatory letter, a short description of the proposal or question to be asked, sketches or plans, or any relevant planning reference number.

You will be asked for this information when you contact us.
