Have your say: Should your Local Payphone be retained?

BT plans to remove a number of little-used public payphones across Stratford District and has written to Stratford-on-Avon District Council as part of a formal consultation process on their proposed programme of public payphone removals.

The Company state that the number of calls made from payphones has more than halved in the last three years and 60% of payphones no longer cover their costs.

A total of 51 payphones have been earmarked for closure in Stratford District as listed below. For more detailed location information you can download a PDF with all 51 listed by postal code.

The District Council is currently preparing a draft response to the consultation, and will be able to consider any comments received up until 5pm on Thursday 24 July.

Please email any comments you have to planning@stratford-dc.gov.uk and ensure that you type 'payphone consultation' in the subject field of the e-mail.

So far the District Council has received 35 representations from Parish Councils and local residents.

The Council will publish a draft response for comment by 29 July 2008, before issuing its final decision to BT by 24 September 2008.
