On their bikes, get set, go

Released on 27 June 2008

To mark ten years of cycle training in Warwickshire, Stratford-on-Avon District Council has challenged staff at NFU Mutual to see who has the sharpest cycling skills.  This is one of a number of ways the organisations are involved in carbon reduction initiatives to develop sustainable communities.

Participating Officers and Councillors will be cycling from their Elizabeth House offices to meet NFU Mutual staff at their Head Office in Tiddington to test out their cycling skills!  The event kindly hosted by the Home Guard Club in Tiddington will offer a range of obstacles to master - and will include an assessment of their 'pedal power'.

Officers from Warwickshire County Council will be assessing the session to see if they can meet the same standard as the young people who go through Cycle Awareness Training, which has just celebrated its 10 year milestone.

The Council is committed to minimising the environmental impact of Council activities and services, and will be developing more green travel opportunities for Councillors and Staff over the coming months, including car sharing, more cycling events and home working.

NFU Mutual has also been keen to exercise its responsibility to the environment. They are currently trialling a bus service for Stratford based staff and encourages greener ways to commute, which includes car sharing and cycling.
