School Food Hygiene Awards

Released on 26 February 2007

In January Stratford-on-Avon District Council launched its Food Hygiene Inspection Ratings Scheme on the District Council website.

The scheme gives people an easy and simple way to check the hygiene standards of any food establishment including schools.

After an inspection by the District Council's environmental health team, each school is given a rating of Gold, Silver, and Bronze, acceptable or unacceptable. Afterwards they get a certificate to display on site, and the results published on the District Council's website, www.stratford.gov.uk.

County caterers are responsible for 54 Schools registered by Stratford-on-Avon District Council of which 85% are Gold or Silver, compared to 63% of District food premises.

The Chairman of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Councillor Mike Brain will be presenting schools with their certificates on Thursday 1 March at 4pm at Thomas Jolyffe Primary School, Clopton Road, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Ratings in Stratford District are Gold, Silver, and Bronze, acceptable, unacceptable.
To date schools operated by county caterers are rated at:

The national scheme is known as Scores on the Doors - http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/

All unacceptable premises are under review and have been told that they will remain in this category, until they respond and maintain standards at an acceptable level between the re-visit and the next formal inspection, when they could be re-categorised.
