Revised Collection Days - In Clearer Format

Released on 11 January 2010

The severe weather conditions are hampering the collection of rubbish and recycling from homes across the whole district and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by the disruption.

New collection dates are shown on the table below and to help you please be guided by your normal collection day. If you are unsure of these details please visit the online collection calendar.

Because of the delays the crews will collect up to three additional sacks of waste during this catch up period only. Any additional waste needs to be securely tied in black bags and placed next to the bin.

There are still many areas which cannot be accessed safely by the collection vehicles so if we are unable to collect from your property on the days shown on the table this material will be taken on your next normal collection day. This is so we can keep to the collection dates as shown on the table and avoid further disruption to other residents who are still waiting for a collection.

Great! a new clearer format for revised collections. All you need to do is look up your normal collection day for either Refuse or Green/Recycling and there you have it - simple. So Monday Green/Recycling becomes Wednesday. A pity that the revised format was not communicated to the contractors providing the service. At 6.50am this morning (Tuesday) the collection happened. Only mine didn't because the wheelie bins were still at the rear of my property behind closed and locked gates. It would be churlish of me under the circumstances to request a re-collection so I will cope with the overflow and hope that I can dispose of it in 2 or 4 weeks time CFW

Geraint Lewis on 12 January 2010 at 10:55

On the basis that these collections cover the Christmas and New Year period and are well over two weeks late already, the stipulation of THREE extra black sacks is unacceptable. When the new two weekly collections were forced on the residents, we were told that the collection cycle would NOT be altered for Bank Holidays with the exception of Christmas Day. This has not been the case and the collections over the holiday period were completeley reorganised. The weather has further disrupted the already ridiculous holiday collection arrangements you had in place with the contractors.

Diane Buckley on 12 January 2010 at 17:52

thank you for the continuing update for collection. Much appreciated.

T R ASH on 12 January 2010 at 18:59

can you please clarify whether the "normal collection day" is the day that collection takes place normally or that which would have been the "normal day" to expect collection had the inclement weather not disrupted things

aj on 13 January 2010 at 10:48

The refuse lorry actually ventured down our road today but didn't bother to pick up any recycling! Amazing, how many more weeks before my rubbish and recycling will be collected? Even when you say that you are going to pick up you don't!

rose Morris on 14 January 2010 at 07:31

We thought we would help by visiting our local tip in Shipston to dispose of some of the overflow but found it closed all day ( Wednesday) so had to cart the rubbish back again. It is unacceptable that the rubbish collection has been so delayed. You can do better for the prices that are paid. We still got to work over this time.

Claire Pitney on 14 January 2010 at 09:03

Well done to 'the refuse team' keeping going in our adverse snowy conditions..... and you are still smiling when you are out and about... i like it

DWD on 14 January 2010 at 12:37

Your update needs updating because I think your collection contractor has lost the plot! We now have two bins outside, grey and recycling. Lorry trundled past our house this morning and did not empty either! Was the lorry full? When is Shipston going to get a collection now, and what is going to be picked up when? Confusion all round!!

nd on 14 January 2010 at 13:44

So the rubish is piling up because the council contractors can't deal with the roads that other council contractors failed to clear. For gods sake it's called winter. Happens every year about this time. Learn to deal with it.

Matthew Williams on 14 January 2010 at 15:02

What are you doing about these comments?

SDC on 14 January 2010 at 15:50

All comments are passed to the refuse team, who should be responded to residents.

SV on 14 January 2010 at 16:11

I would like to thank the bin men for providing a service, albeit delayed by several days, to a small village which was hit by heavy snow. I for one do not want to pay more Council tax to pay for more manpower/vehicles/stores of grip etc in case we have exceptional weather. And this year the met office forecast a mild winter!

Helen Lakin on 14 January 2010 at 16:46

I would like to know when the, Hockley Heath/Tanworth in Arden area can expect collections of either refuse or recycling. Both bins have sat outside in anticipation for over a fortnight. The postman has delivered every day through the snow in his small van, as have delivery drivers, not sure why we haven't had a single collection for weeks, but rubbish is stacking up in the house as foxes tear open black bags left outside. Can you please provide any information so that we don't miss the collection when it actually arrives. Thank you.

Matthew Williams on 14 January 2010 at 17:31

Our collection day of 13th became 14th (today) but was not collected. Does this mean you try again on 15th or we just keep guessing. Why are developments not being communicated properly?

Pozzer on 15 January 2010 at 00:19

It's quite simple. Get your big boots on, position the bin next to handy garden wall about 18 inches tall, climb in and jump up and down a bit. You'd be surprised how much you can get in! My bin man in Napton is real star and a genuinely nice bloke. He turned up in the snow wearing his furry hat and a smile

Richard Williams on 15 January 2010 at 12:24

I cannot believe the rudeness of some of the comments on this site. This far from 'normal' weather for us and to have enough resources to deal with it would be a terrible waste of money and out up council tax. Some people need to get real and be more tolerant.

Mike Bond on 15 January 2010 at 14:42

I wonder if anyone posting complaints continued through this weather without varying their own routine. I would not want to be manhandling full wheeled bins across icy roads. Just do it when you can, and I, for one, will understand. It's not the end of the world!

a s on 16 January 2010 at 13:22

I have become very confused as to which refuse/recycle week it is as my grey bin hasn't been emptied since before Christmas so am leaving them both out in the forlorn hope there may be a collection soon. I was hoping one bin would be emptied yesterday (15th) as per the revised calendar but it wasn't!

confused on 16 January 2010 at 18:49

keep site updated regulary or it gets even more confusing recycling now 3 days late according to list

Mark Griffiths on 16 January 2010 at 18:57

What happened to the recycled rubbish (blue and green bins) collection today, Saturday 16th January? The whole of Evesham Road had their bins out, following the guidance on this website. Was it so difficult for you to put up a message on this website on Friday 15th saying it was never going to happen? And what are we to do now? Leave them out permanently until it happens? Or, will you finally get around to letting us know when it will happen?

Prof. S D Jacka on 17 January 2010 at 12:53

This is disgraceful. You are making no attempt to make up for missed collection of food waste after a spasmodic initial attempt. This means that food waste may not be collected for up to four weeks. Have you budgeted for a very large increase in the (unhealthy) rat population?

dee on 17 January 2010 at 18:20

NO COLLECTION OF RECYCLE BLUE LID BIN SINCE 2009 NOW THE 17TH JANUARY THIS IS ABSOLUTLY AWFUL YOU MANAGED TO COLLECT THE BLACK LID BINS, WHATS THE PROBLEM? NOW 4 WEEKS WORTH OF RECYCLE PILING UP OUTSIDE SEEMS TO ME SOMEONE IS SLACKING HERE NO SNOW HERE FOR A WHILE SO WHATS THE EXCUSE THIS TIME?

Mal Nash on 17 January 2010 at 18:27

I am in Stratford town zone 1. On Saturday the 16th my recycling bin was emptied but not my green garden waste bin. The revised schedule said both would be collected. It would be good to know when it will be emptied since leaving it outside my house obstructs access to my house. Unclear if it was just overlooked or if there is a revised plan.

Andrew on 18 January 2010 at 13:34

"... collections will return to normal" understanding permitting. Bishops Itchington residents have had one or other or both bins out for collection since Christmas week - most (including myself) following the instructions on the pages found here. This week, I give up. I have no idea what will be collected on Thursday (?), nor do I know who will be clearing the refuse that will be leaking from the refuse bags that are being added daily to the roadside collection. Considering a collection should have been made last week, I do not consider the service to be returning to normal until all of the backlog is collected. I would like to have seen an extra collection today.
