Troops cycle ride to help heroes

Released on 6 July 2009

Stratford District Council Vice-Chairman, Cllr Sir William Lawrence Bt together with the Mayor of Shipston, Cllr Alan Noyce will be welcoming the Help4Heroes bike ride this Saturday 11 July when they pass through Shipston.

Stratford District Council Vice-Chairman, Cllr Sir William Lawrence BT together with the Mayor of Shipston, Cllr Alan Noyce will be welcoming the Help4Heroes bike ride outside The George Hotel, High Street in Shipston between 2.45pm and 3.15pm.

The Royal Engineers recruiting team are doing a Help4Heroes bike ride from the 11th to 13th July.   They will be cycling from Selly Oak Hospital, where troops injured in Operations are taken; then onto Headly Court in Surrey, the militaries rehabilitation centre, situated 158 miles away.

The bike ride will take place on a specially designed seven seated bike.

The aim is to raise enough money for Headly Court to rebuild parts of the facilities and raise awareness of all service men and women who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Help for Heroes (H4H) is a British charity launched in September 2007 to help provide better facilities for wounded British servicemen and women. It was founded by Bryn Parry, a cartoonist and former member of The Royal Green Jackets, after he visited soldiers at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham. The charity was launched after a meeting with General Sir Francis Richard Dannatt KCB CBE MC, the Chief of the General Staff, the professional head of the British Army
