Pedalling their way to Shakespeare

Released on 15 June 2009

On Wednesday 17 June, staff from Stratford-on-Avon District Council, NFU Mutual and the Birthplace Trust, supported by Stratford Cycle Hire, will be visiting venues associated with Shakespeare as part of National Cycle Week 2009.

This years Bike Week encourages people to explore their local area by bike.  The route starts at the new refreshment carriage on the Greenway, where tourists and locals alike enjoy that cycle route, and then take in Holy Trinity Church, Anne Hathaways Cottage and finish up at the Birthplace where participants will be able to have a look around.

This is the third year that such a joint event has taken place, and encourages staff to consider cycling as part of their travel plans.  Some will cycle from their home, while others who live further away will cycle part way.

Bike Week is the UK's largest mass participation cycling event and provides an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fitness and fun, not to mention an alternative form of transport.  This year, Bike Week 2009 is encouraging everyone to 'get more out of life' - by getting on your bikes, exploring the local community and finding out just how convenient cycling is for all those short trips made each day.
