Flood relief for District Towns and Parishes

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is in the process of letting District Town and Parish Councils know how much they are to receive under the District Council's 'one-off' Flooding Grant scheme.

Following the 2007 summer floods the District Council  was given over £600,000 by central government to help pay for clear up operation and to assist in the prevention of future problems.  The majority of this money was given directly to householders who had suffered flooding with another portion being earmarked for major flood relief schemes by both the Environment agency and Warwickshire County Council.

The final £100,000 was set aside for Towns and Parishes to bid for their own smaller schemes.
Most of the Towns and Parishes were awarded the maximum amount available of £3,200 and Parishes who asked for less received what they had requested.

"The District Council has been doing all that it can to help those towns and parishes  that are affected by flooding in our District and has taken great pains to ensure that the money received from the Government has been targeted in areas of most need," says Councillor Simon Jackson, Environment Portfolio Holder.

"This grant scheme is a 'one-off' and I hope that it goes some way to helping Towns and Parishes to do what is necessary to help prevent future flooding relating problems."
