Rationale
The tournament programme promotes the opportunities for young people to compete in a number of events in a team and individual basis. It is open to all young people whom have never participated in sport or at a competitive level.
Research has proven that regular exercise keeps the heart healthy and reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke, and risks associated with obesity. The schools tournament programme is aimed at encouraging young people away from their computers and television sets, into sports halls and onto sports fields.
Current Position
The annual schools tournament programme is coordinated by the Sports Development Team at a number of venues in the District. The tournament programme is open to all Primary & Secondary schools in the District.
The tournament programme is very popular. The specific sports competitions can be viewed by clicking on the links below. The tournaments are organised either in a round robin or knockout competition depending on the numbers of entries.
