The Rent Express Scheme, which is run by the Council's Housing Advice Team, can help people to access private rented accommodation if they cannot afford the rent in advance and cash deposit.
The Council can help eligible households with up to one month's rent in advance, normally up to one month's deposit guarantee, and up to one month's rent guarantee.
The Deposit Guarantee is offered in place of the usual cash deposit required by most landlords and letting agents but provides the same level of security to landlords.
The Rent Guarantee protects landlords where rent arrears are outstanding at the end of the tenancy.

In order to be considered for the Rent in Advance payment, people must be eligible to receive full Housing Benefit. Eligibility for the Deposit Guarantee is limited to those who are either in receipt of a means tested benefit or are on low incomes, and so would qualify for some Housing Benefit.

Tenant and Landlord Liaison Officer
The Tenant and Landlord Liaison Officer can give free advice to both tenants and landlords who have used the Rent Express Scheme.
If you are living in a property where you used the Rent Express Scheme to help take on the tenancy and you are experiencing problems in the tenancy, or are thinking of leaving the property, please contact the Tenant and Landlord Liaison Officer to discuss the situation.
If you are a landlord of a property where the tenant used the Rent Express Scheme to take on the tenancy and you have any issues regarding the tenancy or if the tenant has notified you of their intention to leave the property, the Tenant and Landlord Liaison Officer can assist you.
