Stratford-on-Avon District Housing Strategy 2009 - 2014 was adopted by The Cabinet of the District Council on 8 February 2010.
The Strategy sets out how the Council and its partners will work together to ensure that more people get the opportunity to live in good quality housing of their choice, with the support they need. It does not deal with the overall number and location of new homes as this is the role of the Local Development Framework - Core Strategy.
Housing Strategy 2009 - 2014 describes the key issues across all housing tenures. Its action plan sets out 29 high level actions under 4 aims:
- To increase the supply and choice of good quality affordable housing for local people - actions that help fund new homes, and actions focused on rural communities.
- To improve existing housing and help people to live as independently as possible - actions that mean existing housing will provide better homes, and actions focused on older people.
- To prevent homelessness and reduce the harm caused by it - actions to help people in housing need, and actions focused on young people.
- To strengthen the support to local communities - actions to help disadvantaged people, and actions that will ensure policies deliver what is needed.

Housing Strategy 2009 - 2014 links clearly with the other relevant strategies such as the two Sustainable Community Strategies (for the District and for Warwickshire). It also refers to the most relevant programmes of key housing partners.
A full list of the strategies and policies that support the housing strategy is given at the end of the Evidence Log. This Log also describes the statistics and important new research reports that have been taken into account.
The general public, users of housing services, representative groups and partner organisations all helped draw up the new strategy. They were consulted before a draft was written in respect of the overall vision, aims and direction that should be pursued. A full draft of the Strategy and action plan was published for public consultation in September 2009. The document was revised in the light of the comments received.
The Consultation Log describes in detail the contribution made by partners and the general public. The Council is grateful to everyone who responded with their comments and suggestions for how the document could be improved.
The Equality Impact Assessment describes the impact of the new strategy on low income households and on each equality 'strand' (that is race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, and disability). The assessment was undertaken early in the drafting process and was reviewed by Stratford District Housing Forum in September 2009. The equality impact of the Strategy will be kept under review.
The Evidence Log, Consultation Log, and Equality Impact Assessment all form part of Housing Strategy 2009 - 2014.
