'Scores on the Doors' is a scheme whereby the hygiene performance of a food business, as assessed by the Council's officers during routine inspections, is made available to the public. The aims of the 'Scores on the Doors' scheme is:
- To provide consumers with a user-friendly way to access the information they need to make informed choices about where to eat in the District.
- To encourage food businesses where deficiencies are found to improve their standards of food hygiene, leading to greater food safety.
- To ensure that those food businesses achieving consistently high standards of food hygiene are publicly recognised and rewarded.
Businesses can be rated either Gold, Silver, Bronze or Acceptable. Businesses with extremely poor management of food safety are not given an award. The award represents the standards found at the time of the inspection (which are in almost all cases unannounced) and are not changed until the next routine inspection. They therefore reflect how well the business manages food safety themselves, without intervention from our officers.
